Be My Guest – TBA Seeking Guest Bloggers for May (Less Rules More Fun!)

We will be doing this! So I need help writing the blog!

Dear Followers of Bliss – After a Nice Call to be a guest blogger on my site I realized I made the requirements as little narrow the first time and therefore some of you whom I thought would jump at this likely believed your posts would not fit the parameters. Here is a revised participation process and more detail.

Reasons why you might consider this:

1. I am launching a brand new website in 2 weeks with full power SEO in place. We are anticipating a conservative 700 hits a day for the month of May and your blog and writing would be optimized being part of this.

2. Guest blogging is a lot of fun and a way to reach an audience you may not have currently on your own blog

3. I like your work and want to continue to build our personal and professional links.

TO SUBMIT (Due Friday April 27)

1. Send me an email to mhousewright@yahoo.com  with the name of your blog hyperlinked to your URL and your name hyperlinked to the ABOUT page on your blog as well as the title of your piece

2.Please include a photograph (of which you have the rights to use) for the piece.

3. All posts must be 600 words or less and be in the categories of TRAVEL, FOOD, WINE, POETRY/HAIKU, HUMOR, WINE, or PHOTOGRAPHY (in the case of Photography I would like a minimum of 4 photos and a maximum of 7)

4. Please include a short Bio (I mean 2-3 sentences Max) explaining why you are a very cool contributor

5. I will enter your work into my blog queue and return to you the exact date and time your blog will appear on my site so that you may let your readers know when you will appear on The Blissful Adventurer.

6. PLease..PLEASE! Spellcheck and proofread your work as I will not be able to edit in the time allotted

If you have already submitted work or told me you want to do this you may want to follow-up with your post and make sure I have all the above information. I will have to enter 26 posts so it would be a huge help if I can avoid having to do much leg work on individual posts.

Please do respond to me via email to discuss any questions you have and all are welcomed to submit. If we exceed 26 in total I will schedule some days for a morning and afternoon post which is quite often very successful.

Thank you all and I hope to see you here on TBA in May!

Very Kind Regards,

Michael

  1. Ignoring my sill squirrel adventures, do you think I would be a good candidate for
this? Thanks,,don’t be afraid to be totally honest….I do blog actual serious photography :)

  2. I am interested… If my work suits you :) . Any topics or ideas?

  3. Now remember, when things look bad and it looks like you’re not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb, mad-dog mean. ‘Cause if you lose your head and you give up then you neither live nor win. That’s just the way it is. Now remember, when things look bad and it looks like you’re not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb, mad-dog mean. ‘Cause if you lose your head and you give up then you neither live nor win. That’s just the way it is.

  4. Will see if I can figure something out if you think it would be helpful, on poetry perhaps? My current writing challenge finishes on 19th April so I should have more time after that if ok?

  5. How are you getting 700 hits a day? Are you throwing your blog on Stumbleupon?

    • Susie,
No, this will be the range when it becomes a self-hosted site and is optimized for search engines. I am launching a whole new entity that will offer my travel consulting services, galleries of photos for sale, my blog, and ultimately my books. The goal is much more than 700 per day as this will no longer be a wordpress.com site and will uniquely evolve on search engines. The 700 is not where I am now but according to my web designer 700 for May is a conservative estimate and it should grow daily with the right tweaks. I would be happy to share more about how this works if you want to chat or email. I hope I am making sense here :-)

  6. Are there any restrictions as far as foul language or PG13 content?

    • I would prefer it not be uber-violent or vulgar for the sake of vulgarity; however, if yours is provocative and edgy while maintaining class and artistic elegance then go for it. You will notice I am not afraid of the occasional F bomb in my posts :-)

  7. Whee! Will be there with (leetle teeny-tiny jingling annoying) bells on! Left a quick question in email… :)

    This is gonna be fun!!

    KC & Co.

  8. wine or wine, eh? :) I’m trying to decide if you did that on purpose or if you just have wine on the mind. I’ll be submitting with all the right stuff (thanks to my wonderful editor BF that understands how to do computery things)

As an aside, I happened upon The Silver Spoon cookbook at B&N in the bargain section this week. It is touted as the “Italian Cooking Bible”. I’ve been studying up.

  9. i’m going to do a wine review, if that works for you.

also, it should be “fewer rules,” not “less rules.” fewer is for things that can be counted as individual items. rules, ulcers, festering sores. less is for something that is a collective amount. water, vomit, amniotic fluid.

    • see definition 6 –
      less   [les] Show IPA
adverb, a compar. of little with least as superl.
      1.
to a smaller extent, amount, or degree: less exact.
      2.
most certainly not (often preceded by much or still ): He could barely pay for his own lodging, much less for that of his friend.
      3.
in any way different; other: He is nothing less than a thief.
adjective, a compar. of little with least as superl.
      4.
smaller in size, amount, degree, etc.; not so large, great, or much: less money; less speed.
      5.
lower in consideration, rank, or importance: no less a person than the manager.
      6.
      fewer: less than a dozen.
The wonderful thing about English is its ability to adapt to the vernacular.
      Cheers!

      • there might be a reason why it’s at six. also, this doesn’t account for usage. it doesn’t explain when to or not to use each.

chicago manual of style: The traditional rule holds that fewer is used with expressions denoting things that can be counted (fewer than four players), while less is used with mass terms denoting things of measurable extent ( less paper; less than a gallon of paint).

        • Antiquated my friend…almost ancient in usage – which is not a surprise coming from ye olde Oxford versus the much more relevant New American Dictionary.
          Usage note
Even though less has been used before plural nouns ( less words; less men ) since the time of King Alfred, many modern usage guides say that only fewer can be used in such contexts. Less, they say, should modify singular mass nouns ( less sugar; less money ) and singular abstract nouns ( less honesty; less love ). It should modify plural nouns only when they suggest combination into a unit, group, or aggregation: less than $50 (a sum of money); less than three miles (a unit of distance). With plural nouns specifying individuals or readily distinguishable units, the guides say that fewer is the only proper choice: fewer words; fewer men; no fewer than 31 of the 50 states.
Modern standard English practice does not reflect this distinction. When followed by than, less occurs at least as often as fewer in modifying plural nouns that are not units or groups, and the use of less in this construction is increasing in all varieties of English: less than eight million people; no less than 31 of the 50 states. When not followed by than, fewer is more frequent only in formal written English, and in this construction also the use of less is increasing: This year we have had less crimes, less accidents, and less fires than in any of the last five years.
At the end of the day, even if my usage was relegated to definition 6 where there are 10 definitions, #6 should be sufficient in a very informal post as this one was today. As I mentioned before, if you find errors within my work that you would like to bring to my attention I urge you to present them to me privately and via email rather than in a public forum.

          • ok on that last part. my bad there for sure.

as for the usage, i think some changes are coming from laziness over the decades. we’re just accepting more and more things that are wrong or not being taught correctly in school anymore. it’s a shame.

again, double apology on how it was presented. no excuse for that.

            • all good sir. my point is that there is a reason English has adapted so well over the years besides the hegemonic pursuits of Anglo nations. The language evolves like no other. The reason signs say Drive Friendly, even though friendly is not technically an adverb is because the term has made its way into the vernacular. Is it precise? Of course not. Is it sophisticated? It is as far from that as can be. However, it has assimilated and is now accepted. This is the case with less versus fewer. It may indeed be lazy but as it stands by the accepted standards voted on by top English scholars at The New American, it is not wrong. We do not have to like change and especially if it devolves something we hold dear, yet we are often powerless against its constant encroachment into our lives.
It is funny to find myself arguing against the refined choice, and at the same time I can also speak a fair bit of Ebonics.
Thanks for your willingness to grammar slap me privately which is much appreciated.
              M

              • i’d like it if you went back and deleted it. it’d help me feel better about it.

drive friendly? never saw that sign. it’s close to the debate of “i feel bad” and “i feel badly.” if “i feel bad” then bad is the adjective that describes my condition, which is not good. if “i feel badly,” then there’s something wrong with nerve endings and sensors in my fingers, and i’m not very good and feeling things.

                oh well. it’ll never end.

  10. Is the idea still to be Italian themed? I need direction, fear change, etc.

  11. Oh … still thinking on this one. I have small issues with writing guest posts. I have done two in the past: one with a popular travel blog and another with an online travel magazine. My total blog hits from these two publications: two! Maybe I’m a snob when it comes to guest posting … but maybe I could pump something out for you, I mean I do live in one of the most beautiful places on earth … thinking …

    • Rich’s guest blog on my site the other day netted him his biggest day for hits since he started his blog. He reblogged the piece as well. My intention here is about sharing and community more than anything else. My guess is that your piece would do well but I certainly cannot guarantee it. Please feel no pressure at all to participate and especially if you hold any apprehension as this should be an exercise in fun above all :-)

  12. This exact same bottle of Chateauneuf-du-pape was one that I enjoyed a lot a while back. PS: Just found your web blog since I love wines and was doing a search on wine bloggers. Truely a great read that I will follow with pleasure. Keep up with those great write-ups

    • Thanks so much for your comment. This was a lovely bottle enjoyed at Willie’s Wine Bar in Paris in 2008 :-) Please tell your friends about me if you feel inclined. This is now my full-time life. Cheers and I will be checking out your blog today.

  13. Great job. As I see you are born to have followers :-) ))

  14. I would love to submit for this opportunity. Now to just brainstorm for ideas…

  15. Hi, I might be in too, but if so, I might take some proposals! ;) Norway? Reindeers? Nordic wild flowers? Definitly not wine! ;) If so one problem: I can’t get an about page on my site. It is written and published, but no such thing to be seen….

  16. Cool idea!

  17. Wine, food, travel – my favourite things in the world! It should be easy but wait; I just arrived in Spain to coach a group of golfers for the next 7 days. But it would be so much fun to be a guestblogger. I could write an article about Benahavis, a tiny Spanish village that has 24 restaurants. Or about eating breakfast in Spain, lunch in Morocco and dinner in Gibraltar, hmmm. No, I need more than 600 words for that article, and 3 photos. I have until the 27th to decide, I figure something out.
