The Blissful Adventurer – 2012 Blog of the Year

Imagine my surprise when I clicked on the link from Cara Olsen to her outstanding blog This Little Light and saw she had selected me among a few of her very talented peers as Blog of the Year for 2012. Cara herself had received the honor and as the protocol dictates shared her love and recognition with other writers she admires in the same vein. Cara, as many of my readers already know, is a novelist/blogger of exceptional mettle and integrity. Her work proves one can have faith and a firm grasp of the human condition and that they are not mutually exclusive. To be chosen by such a talented scribe is truly a blessing in these end of 2012 days. Thank you Cara Olsen. You are blessed and blessed with good taste :-) [Read more...]

A Freshly Pressed Recap – Survival Guide

Peaceful thoughts as the lights have faded

First of all I must give thanks once again to my amazing followers and WP friends for your support long before the de-facto lottery win last week. Without you I would never have been in a position to have been chosen to be Freshly Pressed.

I also want to welcome again all new followers to The Blissful Adventurer and thank you for your curiosity and interest in this work that I call a career. I hope you will stay with our journey here as we are going to exciting places and sharing the inner workings of Sicily, Bandol in France, Cambodia, Thailand, and more of the wondrous state of Colorado in the coming calendar year. In addition to real life experiences I will always be penning some edgy fiction from each of our destinations including the series on Piedmont, Italy which continues tomorrow. [Read more...]

A Creative Pause – Monday Morning Meditation

Time Capsule – Ancient Drug Store and Soda Fountain (Hipstamatic)

This was literally one of my greatest days as a photographer. I was invited to join a restaurant developer in Houston last spring to look at a building for sale in a rapidly gentrifying part of town.

I went along hoping to discover a site for a new restaurant and bar; what I found was a living museum.  [Read more...]

Juliet’s Hisptamatic Tour of Colorado

Twin Lakes on the way down from Independence Pass

The other and most important half of The Blissful Adventurer team is Juliet Housewright, my talented wife and photographer.

Juliet has a keen eye for design, fashion, and aesthetic which she uses to create compelling images.

Keep in mind that many of these images were taken with an iPhone 3G (including the shot above) which has a relatively poor level of resolution, yet she really documented beautifully our first 6 months living in Colorado.

The Hipstamatic App for iPhone is not for everyone; it does however speak to Juliet and me in our journeys and we are grateful it is such a reasonably priced and easy to use app.

Enjoy the show! [Read more...]
