The Blissful Adventurer – 2012 Blog of the Year

Imagine my surprise when I clicked on the link from Cara Olsen to her outstanding blog This Little Light and saw she had selected me among a few of her very talented peers as Blog of the Year for 2012. Cara herself had received the honor and as the protocol dictates shared her love and recognition with other writers she admires in the same vein. Cara, as many of my readers already know, is a novelist/blogger of exceptional mettle and integrity. Her work proves one can have faith and a firm grasp of the human condition and that they are not mutually exclusive. To be chosen by such a talented scribe is truly a blessing in these end of 2012 days. Thank you Cara Olsen. You are blessed and blessed with good taste :-) [Read more...]

Montara State Beach – Haiku and Variations

Montara State Beach sits just north of the town of Half Moon Bay, California along the historic Pacific Coast Highway 1. Today’s post is dedicated to a friend who I learned recently was severely injured in a fall and is fighting to regain the ability to walk. I hope the spirit imbues me with something cool today. This will not be strict Haiku so if you are a purist, you might want to leave now :-)

IMO Thursday – My Most Difficult Job: Writing

Writer’s Block To-do List

First of all let me apologize for my long summer absence. After my return from Italy and the TBEX bloggers conference I felt truly overloaded. Too much impetus, too fast, and the bug of introspection set itself firmly in my mind.

This is where the difficulty comes in writing dear followers of bliss. I began to allow my introspection into my prose and my poetry. I finally, after many years of holding back began to share with a strange new world the inner workings of my head. I loved the feedback and the give and take. WordPress in many ways was my writers forum, a place to practice a craft and to experiment with style and sharing.
I believed the WP.com community to be a place of safety. At the same time, we all have an audience and a voice our readers are accustomed to hearing. The morose side of TBA was a bit much for some of my readers and a very dear friend and fellow blogger let me know as much. [Read more...]

Haiku Tuesday – Still Living in Denver

Technical difficulties and creative exhaustion led to the untimely demise of Haiku Sunday this week. To celebrate the 33 views of my blog that day (the lowest total since January) I am offering a glimpse into my last week. Haiku Tuesday is about my still life in Denver while enjoying the genius artworks of Clyfford Still, perhaps the most important Abstract Expressionist painter. Mr Still’s work along with Jackson Pollock and my favorite modern painter Mark Rothko changed the way we look at art today and possibly even our views of the world.

I cried on and off throughout my day in the Clyfford Still Museum  on Sunday because the paintings reminded me why I am out here trying to create which to me is just the way I want to live and so frequently do not.

Haiku Sunday – Venice, Italy (I’m Back)

Welcome back to TBA live posts! This feels so good to get back in the Saddle and with over 6000 new images and countless new stories I am thrilled to share with all of you.

I urge you all to click the images below and see them in full resolution. Juliet and I worked like starving artists (we are) to capture the photos along this journey.

Stay tuned for big new changes to the TBA site and I look forward to all your comments and my still very jet-lagged responses.
